Sumbawa’s Child Protection Project

A few week ago during Christmas holiday, I was invited by Penduli Anak Foundation (Yayasan Peduli Anak/YPA), a non-profit organisation for child welfare in Lombok and Sumbawa, to join their project in Sumbawa, Indonesia. YPA's team drove to Sumbawa to do home visit and bring donation for two orphanages, Al-Balaad & Al-Mihzan, that they’ve been supporting since 2019. Apart from goods donation to make their life a bit more comfortable and some medicine and first aid help to treat the children there. YPA's team and I doing some documentary works about ther living both in photos and video. Some orphans from YPA also join with this trip. As other obstacles to economic and social progress have been tackled, alumnus, Laode Syarif, is working to eradicate corruption wherever he finds it. Long hours and a lot of pressure. That’s a fact of life for Laode Syarif (PhD (Law) ’08), who is one of only five anti-corruption commissioners in Indonesia’s Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi (Corruption Eradication Commission), or KPK.   “It is a very dangerous job,” Syarif says. “It affects my life a lot – not just for myself but my family and even my mum. Gelombang Mimpi Anak Lombok – Portrait

Seorang anak tidak bisa memilih, dari keluarga macam apa mereka dilahirkan. Tidak pula bisa menentukan lahir dari ibu seperti apa, dan dari ayah yang mana. Tidak semua cukup beruntung mendapatkan keluarga yang berkecukupan dan mampu menunjang masa depan. Ataupun sekedar menganggap mereka sebagi berkah yang diberikan, sekaligus kebahagian. Keterbatasan seakan menjadi bagian hidup mereka sejak kecil dan tak jarang kekerasan kadang mewarnai kehidupan mereka. Nasib membuat anak-anak ini tinggal di Yayasan Peduli Anak (YPA) di Lombok Barat, Nusa Tenggara Barat. Sebuah yayasan yang didirikan tahun 2005, yang sekarang menjadi tempat tinggal dari sekitar 100 anak yang terditi dari anak yatim, anak jalanan, dan anak terlantar. Hari Darmawan : Enough is Enough

Pada Maret 2011, saya mendapat penugasan dari Forbes Indonesia Magazine untuk bertemu dengan Bapak Hari Darmawan, di rumah yang sudah beliau diami selama 3 dekade. Rumah yang asri di area Taman Wisata Matahari, Puncak, Bogor. Pak Hari adalah pendiri dari Matahari Department store. Sebuah mall yang sangat terkenal di era saya. Barangkali menjadi department store pertama di kota-kota teman-teman saya pernah tinggal. Ia membuka gerai pertama Matahari pada 24 Oktober 1958. Gerai tersebut di gedung dua lantai seluas 150 meter persegi di Pasar Baru, Jakarta. Pada 1980-an, Matahari membuka cabang-cabangnya di hampir semua kota besar di Indonesia.
