Survivor
Belasan orang terdiam membisu. Sebagian mereka nyaris tanpa baju dengan tubuh merlumur lumpur dan mengering. Ada yang duduk dan berdiri. Namun mereka tidak berkata-kata, hanya memegang potret . Potret dari wajah-wajah yang bagi orang umum tidak begitu dikenal karena memang bukan portret public figure atau selebritis. Mereka adalah wajah-wajah dari korban lumpur di Sidoarjo yang juga dikenal dengan Lumpur Lapindo. Itulah “Survivor” sebuah art performance yang disuguhkan seniman Dadang Christanto dalam penutupan Biennale Jogja X yang digelar beberapa bulan yang lalu.

The WACC Photo competition 2010 | Poverty

The WACC Photo competition 2010 has been launched. The competition, in its seventh year, is being run on Flickr for the fifth time!
This year’s theme is Communication and Poverty. Poverty includes communication poverty. Stronger voices of people living in poverty lead to better understanding and action aimed at tackling injustice and inequality. With open access to information and knowledge, poor communities can work towards a better future. Images should focus on communication helping to overcome poverty; tearing down communication barriers; having a voice and being heard.

The 2010 Photocrati Fund

The 2010 Photocrati Fund competition is now open. Deadline for application submissions is March 15, 2010 (by 11pm GMT).
What is the Photocrati Fund?
The Photocrati Fund offers $5000 grants to non-professional photographers to undertake important humanitarian and environmental photography projects. Our goal is to identify outstanding, up-and-coming photographers and give them the resources necessary to pursue projects that will have a tangible and positive effect on the world.
We will offer one grant in 2010. The application deadline is March 15, 2010, and the award will be announced in June 2010.

Nasib gajah Sumatra (Elephas maximus sumatranus) di Riau tidaklah terlalu menggembirakan. Keberadaan mereka sekarang seakan menjadi sebuah dilema.
Bila kita tengok di Pusat Konservasi Gajah Sultan Syarif Hasyim atau juga dikenal dengan Pusat Latihan Gajah (PLG) Tahura, Minas, Riau, kehidupan puluhan hewan mamalia darat raksasa ini cukup menarik. Melihat mereka saat mandi di sungai atau menjelajah hutan di atas punggung gajah-gajah yang sudah terlatih tersebut, menjadi hiburan tersendiri. Duduk dan bercanda ditemani anak gajah yang lucu menjadi pengalaman yang tak terlupakan.
Namun disisi lain konflik yang terjadi antara manusia dengan gajah juga semakin meningkat setiap tahunnya. Bahkan beberapa pekan waktu silam kawanan gajah mengamuk di permukiman Kelurahan Balai Raja, Kecamatan Pinggir, Kabupaten Bengkalis. Tiga rumah serta puluhan hektar perkebunan rusak. Bahkan amukan gajah tersebut memaksa anak-anak dan wanita untuk diungsikan ke kantor kelurahan selama dua pekan.

1.Latar Belakang
Seiring dengan perkembangan pembangunan jalan tol di Indonesia, yang telah mencapai 32 tahun sejak dioperasikannya jalan tol pertama, yaitu Jalan Tol Jagorawi, pada tanggal 1 Maret 1978. Jalan tol telah menjadi bagian dari keseharian pengguna jalan tol, yang menggunakan jasa jalan tol sebagai salah satu alternatif mencapai tujuan perjalanan.
Sejalan dengan Visi PT Jasa Marga untuk menjadi leader dalam industri jalan tol di Indonesia, salah satunya dengan terus membangun jalan tol baru. PT Jasa Marga juga harus dibangun menjadi perusahaan yang dapat memenuhi persyaratan dan harapan pengguna jalan tol sebagai pelanggan, salah satunya dengan memberikan rasa aman dalam berkendara di jalan tol.
Sejalan dengan program Pemerintah untuk menggalakkan penghijauan, Jasa Marga selama ini telah melakukan penanaman pohon dan beautifikasi di ruas-ruas jalan tol, yang juga merupakan bagian dari pelayanan kepada pengguna jalan dalam menyediakan jalan tol yang indah dan asri.
