Visual Documentations for Lombok Earthquakes 2018

According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), as of August 23, the strong earthquakes, including the 7.0-magnitude quake that shook Lombok Island on August 5, had killed at least 555 people and caused injuries to 829 others.

The majority of the fatalities were residents of North Lombok District areas, due to their close proximity to the strong earthquake`s epicenter. The repeated earthquakes have also damaged 23,098 houses and forced 134,236 people to be displaced.

After has an assignment on this location, HKV’s team Ardiles Rante (videographer), Ahmad Zamroni (photographer), and Andi Siswanto (Soundman) help Yayasan Peduli Anak (YPA) or Peduli Anak Foundation with some visual documentation for their campaigns. Lombok-based  Peduli Anak  Foundation has been helping underprivileged children and their families by providing them with the necessary residential care, family care, education, medical care and legal aid.

Asbestos is used widely in roof constructions for most houses here because of its inexpensiveness. When the earthquakes damaged the houses, the asbestos roofs fell and broke. A broken asbestos roof is a health risk, especially to those exposed to it for a period of time.
