What are the ICP Awards?
The International Conservation Photography Awards (ICP Awards) is a premier worldwide photography event focused on conservation and the environment. The biennial juried photo competition, along with awarding cash and merchandise to selected photographers, will include an online exhibit, a 3-month museum gallery exhibit at the prestigious Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture in Seattle, Washington, publication in a national photography magazine and other printed communications, and a slide show for use in community outreach and global on-line entertainment/education.
Entry Fees
The entry fee is $50(US) for up to 4 entries and $15(US) for each individual entry thereafter, with limit of 4 submissions per category. (Special category Documenting a Conservation Project may provide up to 6 images for the $50 (US) entry fee.
For entrants in the Student category the fee is $25(US) for up to 3 entries and $10(US) for each individual entry thereafter with no limit on the number of total entries allowed.
AWARDS / PRIZES
Exhibit at the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture
Selected photographers whose images are chosen for awards will be honored with a
3-month exhibit at the prestigious Burke Museum in Seattle, Washington. The selected images will be professionally matted and framed by the ICP Awards and professionally mounted in the main presentation room at the Burke. Photographers will have the opportunity to provide a description of the process and intention of capturing their winning photographs. www.burkemuseum.org
Online and Print Exhibitions
The selected images with photographer credits will also be presented in the ICP Awards Gallery, in the fall 2010 issue of PhotoMedia Magazine, and in other prominent print media. Announcements of winning photographers will be made via national and local news media; and a virtual slideshow of the exhibit will be developed and presented for arts/education purposes and outreach by the ICP Awards.
Category Awards*
There will be a mix of cash and merchandise awards in each category as follows:
- Best in Category - $1000
- 1st Runner Up - $500
- 2nd Runner Up - Merchandise
Best in Show / Art Wolfe Award: The photographer whose image is chosen as Best in Show for the Art Wolfe Award will receive a special prize. This year the grand prize is the Canon EOS-1D Mark IV digital camera (body only), the next chapter of EOS offering a comprehensive combination of speed, accuracy and image quality. (Value $5000.) The recipient of this award may or may not be included in any of the other winning categories. This award will be given to the photographer whose image best exemplifies the mission of the ICP Awards – and what founder Art Wolfe proclaimed in his original vision for this invitational in 1997:
“an event for the advancement of photography as a unique medium capable of bringing awareness and preservation to our environment through art.” Thanks to our sponsor Canon for this prestigious prize.
Honorable Mentions in each category will be included in the exhibition(s) and in all communications regarding results of the awards selections, including the ICP Awards website and gallery.
